EXPERIENCE Before returning to private practice, Ron was the District Attorney for Essex County, New York from 1994 to 2005, and a member of the Executive Committee for the New York State District Attorneys Association and the Essex County Task Force Against Domestic Violence. As District Attorney, Ron tried a wide variety of criminal cases, from DWI cases to a capital murder case, and had a 96% conviction rate. In 1978, Ron founded the law firm of Briggs & Dwyer in Lake Placid, which became Briggs, Dwyer and Smith, P.C. in 1981. Ron also served as a part-time Assistant District Attorney for Essex County from 1979 to 1993 and as the Village Attorney for the Village of Lake Placid from 1978 to 1993, which included handling complex transactions in the years preceding and including the 1980 Winter Olympics. Ron is currently the Town Attorney for the Town of North Elba.
